Mark Moore Interview
Discussion of Jan & Dean history, and the forthcoming album project honoring Jan Berry as a writer, arranger, and producer. From The Back Porch Show with Jammin' Jay. KBIG Radio, Dallas, TX. January 21, 2007.
From the earliest days of the Barons and Jan & Arnie in 1958 . . . through the peak era of Jan & Dean . . . to "Phase II" and beyond . . . this interview covers the highs and lows of the tumultous life and career of Jan Berry.
Also covered are the crucial Psychedelic-era Jan & Dean recordings Save For A Rainy Day (Dean Torrence) and Carnival of Sound (Jan Berry).
NOTE: This is not the actual audio that was broadcast on the show over the Internet. KBIG does not currently archive its shows; and this audio was recorded by staff at KBIG as a favor to Jan & Dean fans who couldn't hear the original broadcast. Thus, there's a delay in the background, as well as other voices and sounds in the studio . . . mixed in with the actual interview . . . so listen closely.
The songs from the show . . . the original mono versions of "Dead Man's Curve" and "New Girl In School" . . . plus our tribute covers of "Anaheim" and "Blowin' My Mind" . . . are omitted here because of the audio limitations of this recording.
Rough drafts of our tribute versions of the songs can be heard on our MySpace site at: http://www.myspace.com/jananddeantribute.

Pretty interesting Mark, hopefully a lot of people heard the interview. I would love for you to do something like that on say Allan Handelman's Show on 101.1. I first listened to his Sunday night show in Greenville years ago and he has a lot of musical related guests. In fact Davie Jones was on one night and talked about Jan and Dean during the interview. Just a thought.

Excellent interview, Mark. You are just a wealth of information.. it was a fascinating listen, and I hope you get more interviews like that in the future.
Thanks so much for posting that for those of us who weren't able to listen live.
IT was a great interview Mark. I found it humorous (and typical) that someone in the studio with the DJ thought what was being discussed, incorrectly thought they were Beach Boy songs, when in reality they were Jan and Dean.
And that's it in a nutshell really. Whenever you hear Jan & Dean tunes amongst people who don't know Jan and Dean, you instantly hear, oh that's the Beach Boys. For some reason or another, Jan & Dean fell thru the cracks and have been ignored for far too long, and I hope your work pays off and proves to everyone that Jan & Dean deserve their spot at the table, too.
P.S. - sorry to be a pain in the ass Mark, but is there anyway you may have another teaser for us to hear from the tribute album?
Great interview Mark and it was good that you were able to support Dean and his work so well whilst focussing on Jan's great work as composer (good to hear some myths explodded!) arranger and producer! Can't wait for the album
Great interview, man . . . Let's do the track!
Sky Saxon of the Seeds.
